Automatic Login
Technical Explanation
The following sections explain how to enable
Automatic NTLM Authentication within your web browser.
Do I need to do this?
No, you do not need to do this. However, it makes the login
process more convenient for your users because they don't
have to enter their user name and password every time they use
Contract Eagle.
How do I set up my browser?
That depends on which web browser and version you are using (eg.
Whether you are using Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 6 or
Firefox 3.5). We have endeavoured to document the most popular
browsers below.
Automatic Login Instructions - Internet Explorer
This process applies to Internet Explorer 6, 7 and
8.
Step 1 - Enable Integrated Windows Authentication
Open Internet
Explorer
- From the Tools menu select Internet
Options
- Select the Advanced tab
- Ensure the "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication" check box
is checked.
- You will need to restart Internet Explorer for this setting to
take effect.
Step 2 - Enable Automatic Login only in the Intranet
Zone
Staying within the Internet Options window, open
the Security tab. The following steps are
indicated on the image to the right:
- Click Local Intranet
- Click Custom Level
- Ensure the "Automatic logon only in Intranet Zone" option is
selected.
Step 3 - Place Contract Eagle within the Intranet Zone
Follow these instructions if your browser indicates that
Contract Eagle is within the Internet zone. The
following image shows the bottom right hand corner of your Internet
Explorer window. If the Internet zone is shown as per
the image below then you should follow these instructions
to move the Contract Eagle host to your Intranet
sone.

menu, select Internet Options. The
following steps are highlighted on the image to the right.
- Select the Security tab and Local
Intranet
- Click the Sites button

- Enter the address of your Contract Eagle server, including
"http://".
- Click Add.
Finally, close the settings windows. You will see that the icon
which previously indicated Internet now indicates
Intranet.
Automatic

This procedure was verified with Mozilla Firefox version
3.5
Open Firefox with the following steps indicated on the image
below:
- Type "about:config" in the browser address field
- Find and double-click the entry named
"network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris"
- Enter the name of your server into the popup window.

Manual Login Instructions - All
Browsers
When you install Contract Eagle, and then click the link to open
the application, one of two things will happen:
- EITHER You will be automatically logged-in and
the Contract Eagle application will display immediately, without
requiring you to enter a password.
-
OR You will be prompted to enter a user name
and password. You will then need to enter your windows login id and
password.
Option 1 : Login Id and Password
Usually it is possible to login just using your
login id and password as per the image to the right. If this does
not work please try option 2, where you include your domain name as
well.
Option 2: Using Domain Name, Login Id and Password
If
you weren't able to login using just your login id then you may
need to prefix it with the domain name and the back-slash. If you
have a stand-alone computer then this would be the name of
your computer.
eg. If your login id is "simon" and your computer or domain
name is "simonspc" then you would enter "simonspc\simon" into the
User Name field.
Notes for Windows Vista Home
Premium Edition and Windows 7 Home Premium Edition
If your Contract Eagle software is installed under a Home
Premium edition of Windows it is important to note that Plain
Text Authentication is used instead of Integrated
Authentication.
This means that the automatic login feature can not be
provided used and you will need to login manually via your windows
user id and password.
